I wound two 100g skeins together and just look at that fat cake!

In true Vancouver style this KAL is celebrating local peeps, so the rules are: make something either designed by a local designer or knit up in locally made yarn. Extra points for doing both ;)

A little bit more about my project:
For me another rule was that I had to use yarn and needles in my stash since I have very few dollars these days. So, I am compromising a bit with the shortness of my circular needles and luckily my US7 needles made the perfect 4" square so I didn't need the larger of the two needle sizes that the pattern calls for (which I don't have on hand). I decided to knit the top part of the shirt in US5 needles though (as per the pattern) since I'm smaller up there and I read some comments about other people's Geminis being a bit loose on top. Since my materials are stretchier than the linen/cotton that the pattern calls for I'm confident it will be the right choice. Fingers crossed.

I'm so excited about this project, it's been a long time since I've knit something for myself. It will be the perfect early Fall blouse. Unless this summer in Vancouver is as chilly as last, in which case I may be able to get away with it in August when I'm back for a visit, in the evenings for sure regardless.

I'll share more on my plans for that visit soon.

Janna

Etsy finds

http://www.vancouveryarn.com/1/post/2012/05/etsy-finds.html

http://www.vancouveryarn.com/1/post/2012/05/etsy-finds.html#comments

Uncategorized

[...]

<img src="http://www.vancouveryarn.com/uploads/4/5/5/4/4554335/714425.jpg?316" style="margin-top: 5px; I didn't really announce the change...so I hope it isn't confusing. What has stayed the same is that we only list Etsy shops which sell supplies in our shop online section of the community page.

Eeek. Sometimes I feel like maybe I treat this site too much like a personal space, like a room in my house that I like to re-arrange every once and a while. It actually did start that way, as a yarn store list for my own personal use. For a while now I've wanted to have a feature like this, preferably where visitors can navigate a list of classes. A couple of years ago I tried to facilitate a shared community calendar, which in hindsight I see was a little ambitious seeing as I don't have super close ties with every single yarn shop in and around Vancouver, so it was hard to get people to participate, or probably more like it was a pain in the butt and I didn't know it ;) BUT I still really want everyone to know where and who they can learn fibery things from in the Greater Vancouver area (and slightly beyond). So now there is a growing list of shops that offer classes as well as instructors who consistently offer workshops in their studio, privately or at various venues.

Click here to see it! And please tell me what you think. I'm totally dyslexic so I sometimes have different ways of presenting things; I decided to organize the list by technique, which I hope serves everyone well.
