Wow, summer went fast! In the last newsletter in June, I mentioned that I'd be skipping July's but when August came so fast I panicked and decided to wait until September and I can't believe we are here already. This summer I spent so much time on beaches that I'm actually beached out. Surprisingly, I didn't get a lot of knitting done. I did, however, finish that large weaving that I'm holding up there while in my summer residency at Fibreworks Studio and Gallery in Madeira Park. It was an absolute dream spending day after day with Yvonne in her network of art-filled yurts. I was stationed in the workshop yurt and had the best time visiting with the dozens of people who visit the area from all over the world. I also had the pleasure of having a few past students come and weave alongside me for a day here and there. I'm back there for one last residency before Yvonne retires, on a Tues-Thursday in the last week of September. Come say hi, bring a loom to learn on and stay awhile. At the beginning of the summer, I fell in love with Maiwa's new Honest Yarn line, and specifically the 100% linen yarn that comes in 4 different weights. I was immediately inspired to design a shawl-inspired scarf with the fingering weight. I'll be releasing the single-skein pattern soon. Moving on to what's going on with other local fibre folk: - This October Tin Can Knits is taking part in Knit Stars 2.0 alongside 9 other incredible designers. Knit Stars is like an online television series where Shelley Brander travels around the world interviewing and filming instruction by knit designers, popular instructors and indie dyers. There is a fee (the first season was $200) and there are also free videos to sign up for. - Chrissy from the Snappy Stitches podcast started The Weaving Podcast. I'm so glad she's filling this gap in the podcast scene and encouraging other weavers to do the same. She's even invited weavers to submit their own videos for her to include in her "weavers in the wild" segment, for those of you who aren't sure you want to begin your own podcast. In the first episode, she mentions how awesome Jane Stafford's online educational weaving guild is and recommends that novice weavers take the Craftsy Floor Loom class as a stepping stone to Jane's guild. She's somewhat of a beginner weaver with a great technical and vocab foundation, so it's fun and educational to follow along as she learns new things, too. - Maiwa has a Brooklyn Tweed pop-up shop! If you're interested in BT having a permanent home here in Vancouver go buy yourself a few skeins to convince them that there is a demand. - Caitlin ffrench is releasing a new book to be available at Knit City - Andrea Rangel's new stitch dictionary Alterknit is getting rave reviews - Abbye Dhal is coming out with a new book of incredible Cloche Knits in the next week or so. - Bernadette of West Coast Wools started a knitting/sewing blog - Local designer Megan Nodecker of Pip n Pin started a podcast

This summer BC suffered a great loss with the passing of Elena Nodel. I didn't know her personally but have knit her designs, and I followed her battle against cancer as it was documented on GoFundMe. Her passing is so very tragic. My heart goes out to her family.
