Picture
You're invited to join me online for Tiny Tapestries - an intimate live workshop which introduces new weavers to the fundamentals of small-scale tapestry in a rigorous 2-hour workshop. We cover the elements of design to consider for small-scale tapestry using paper collage and then dive into the basics of tapestry weaving, including 'magic' techniques.

Tiny Tapestries is on Sunday Sept 26th 1pm-3pm pacific.

Sign up for only $15

This workshop takes place via Zoom - you will get your Zoom link and password the day before the workshop. The recorded workshop will be available to watch for six months after the workshop takes place. If you are unable to attend the workshop you will have access to the playback.

Why weave tiny tapestries? Let me tell you!Tiny tapestries can be made in to magnets, pins, patches, tiny wall hangings and whatever else your imagination can dream up. AND they are a great way to dip your toes into the world of weaving tapestry.

New at Digits & Threads

I'm very excited to share that my series of tapestry weaving articles has begun to roll out online at Digits & Threads, beginning with An Intro to Tapestry Weaving: Vocabulary and Best Practices

Tapestry weaving is the slow, methodical and intimate art of weaving pictures. The weaver’s woven pictures can be representational or abstract, with varying degrees of detail depending on their setup.

My foray into tapestry weaving began in 2008 when I first entered Capilano University’s Textile Art diploma program (sadly, no longer offered). It was the first kind of weaving that was introduced to students, most likely because it is the perfect hands-on way to conceptualize the idea of, and the relationship between, warp and weft.

Digits & Threads is an independent, member-supported online magazine about Canadian fibre and textile arts, crafts and industry, published by Nine Ten Publications, and I'm very proud and excited to be a contributor there.

About the Everlea Guide to Vancouver Yarn

Hi, I'm Janna. I'm the proprietor and natural dyer at Everlea Yarn, and the tapestry instructor at The School of SweetGeorgia. I am a tapestry weaver, longtime knitter and 2013 graduate of Concordia University's Fibres and Material Practices program.

I created Vancouver Yarn in 2008 as a space to hold as much of the textile awesomeness that I could find in and around Vancouver. Here on the VY blog I mostly share about local events, pattern releases as well as share Community Highlights.

Do you have an event, KAL, yarn or pattern release, launch or other thing you want us to post? Just fill out the form above or send your press release to me at
     janna (at) vancouveryarn.com

    Thank you,
    Janna
