I had an exhibition at the VAV Gallery in Montreal in the first two weeks of November (right in the middle of midterms) and somehow still had the sense and energy to create this process video. Enjoy!
Janna Kate Barber, a friend and colleague of mine from the textiles program at Capilano (I also did an amazing practicum with her) visited Kyoto Japan in September with Silk Weaving Studio owner Diana Sanderson. They were met there by a long time friend of theirs (also a former weaver at the Silk Weaving Studio) Chisako who, through her ties with the community there got them behind the scene tours of many of the places they visited.
Since her return Kate has been lovingly maintaining a Kyoto blog (which I love to gradually read over with tea in the mornings). She takes us from amazing textile based galleries to ornately decorated temples, then to food markets and even an indigo museum. It just doesn't feel right to refrain from sharing the love, so here is the link to her blog, please take a look. This guy is too funny. The colours in the textiles are amazing and I love how they give you a peek into how textiles are made, and how many steps are involved. Yes, a mere peek.
