Sign the Petition to Stop the PST on Yarn, Fabric, and Crafting supplies in BC

We, the undersigned residents of British Columbia, call on the Provincial Government to reverse its decision to remove the PST exemption on yarn, fabric, thread, and crafting supplies scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026. 
Yarn, fabric, and crafting materials are not luxury goods. They are essential tools for:

• Makers and artisans rely on these materials for their livelihoods.
• Makers and artisans use crafting for wellness, community, connection, and creativity. It has been scientifically proven to be an essential tool for helping with mental health and addiction.
• Seniors and people on fixed incomes, crafting is a lifeline; a way to stay creative and connected in the community.
• Parents and educators who use fibre arts in classrooms and youth programs. It is a healthy alternative to screentime and social media. It teaches focus, self confidence, and creativity.
• Sustainable living advocates who mend, sew, and create instead of discarding. Supporting sustainable practices is crucial in battling climate change and preserving our planet for future generations.
• Local small businesses are the backbone of BC’s creative economy. Small business are the foundation of our community and the root of bringing people, makers, crafters, and artists together.

Adding PST to these materials will increase costs for thousands of British Columbians and place unnecessary strain on small retailers already facing rising expenses.
We urge the Government of British Columbia to:

• Maintain the PST exemption on yarn, fabric, thread, and crafting supplies.
• Recognize fibre arts as essential creative, educational, and wellness activities.
• Consult with small businesses and crafting communities before implementing tax changes that disproportionately affect them

Crafting builds community, supports mental health, and sustains local businesses. We ask the BC Government to protect accessible creativity for all British Columbians by keeping these materials PST‑exempt.
