Hi, I'm Janna Maria. I am a tapestry weaver, botanical dyer, knitter, instructor and proprietor of Everlea Yarn. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibres from Concordia University (Montreal) and am currently living on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
I created VancouverYarn.com in 2008 as a single space to hold as much of the do-it-yourself textile awesomeness that I could find in and around greater Vancouver. That was less than one year before I entered into Capilano University's, now late, Textile Art diploma program. As part of my entrance portfolio, the Vancouver Yarn website helped me win the entrance scholarship there. |
My business Everlea Yarn is consciously sourced yarn which I dye with plants. My signature line of fingering, sport and worsted weight merino wool yarns begin as 100% organic merino sourced from New Zealand which are spun in Ontario and then dyed with plant dyes in British Columbia by me.
Pictured at left I am holding my Ambershore shawl designed by local designer Inese Sang, and knit in Everlea Fingering. Shop these colourway combos HERE.

Support Woolwerx
Greater Vancouver's fibre-based social enterprise

Woolwerx is a social enterprise created by the Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver to provide training and employment to marginalized women in BC’s Lower Mainland.
Located in New Westminster, Woolwerx is based on a unique concept: turning donated wool from local shepherds (which is otherwise disposed of as a waste product) into hand-processed wools and yarns.
Ways to support Woolwerx:
- Donate raw wool and roving for them to process and create products with.
- Shop yarn and other wool products in their Etsy shop
The lovechild of crafty authors Kim Werker and Kate Atherly, Digits & Threads is an independent, member-supported online magazine about Canadian fibre and textile arts, crafts and industry, published by Nine Ten Publications.

The School of SweetGeorgia is a Vancouver-based online fibre arts school which aims to inspire, educate, and engage. They love sharing their passion for the yarn and textile arts while creating new dyers, weavers, spinners, and knitters. They have built a video-based school that includes more than 50 courses and workshops with a team of excellent, knowledgeable, and practicing artisans and instructors, many of whom are local.
