This weekend is Woolith Faire, Vancouver's annual yarn crawl hosted by the West Coast Knitters' Guild!
From the Woolith Fair website, "Woolith Fair is an event for yarn lovers and fibre artists from the Lower Mainland and beyond. Organized by the West Coast Knitters’ Guild, this three-day yarn crawl is designed to get you out and about, and visiting as many Local Yarn Stores (LYSs) and fibre-related businesses as possible! This is your one-stop spot for everything you need to know about Woolith Fair 2019. Explore the 23 Passport Stops, read the latest news, and check out the Map of where all the stops are located." ​The Vancouver Yarn calendar shows a few trunk shows that are happening in local yarn shops for the crawl including Caroline Dick at Black Cat Custom Yarn in Chilliwack starting tomorrow! A couple of days ago the fam and I went on a hike up Soames Hill in Gibsons. That was the best decision we've made all week. It was stunning day on the Sunshine Coast.
One of my favourite knits these days is my Light & Warmth cowl by @sweaterfreakknits. Jenny designed it in Everlea's Canadian Alpaca Plus and mine is knit in the Medium Indigo colourway. The pattern calls for slightly more than one hank of yarn and I did a silly thing when I finished the first one. Firstly, I didn't try it on. If I had I would have realized I was more than happy to stop there and bind off. But I didn't, and then I lost the second hank I had wound in preparation. For two months I told myself whenever I come across it I'll finish the cowl. That never happened and when Fibres West was approaching I wanted to make sure it was done as a sample so I opened the project bag, tried it on, realized it was great as is, did a crochet bind off and was done in 10 minutes 🤣. For two months I could have been wearing this coziness!! It didn't even need to blocked! The sweater I'm wearing is Caitlin Hunter's Ingalls Sweater in Everlea's Organic Merino Sport in 'ffrench locks' for the body and Canadian Alpaca Plus in the 'fresh green' for the yoke colourwork. 4/15/2019 0 Comments Knit City update

Artist and author Jen Hewett has put a call out for crafters of colour in the US and Canada for her second book with Roost Books provisionally titled, "The Craft Community: Conversations with Crafters of Color"
In her Instagram post she says, [The book] will highlight women of color who actively engage in fiber arts and crafts. The book will feature the voices of women of color of all ages and skill levels, from beginning hobbyists to established professionals. If your interested take part take Jen's survey

Acid Dyeing Yarn
Chantel Ingram In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics of acid dyeing on fingering weight superwash yarn. The workshop will start with some colour theory, before launching into the basics that a beginning dyer needs to know. Chantel will show you the equipment you’ll need, the safety precautions you should be taking, the chemicals you’ll need to use and how to use them safely, how to mix dye solutions accurately, some cool methods for applying dye to yarn, and finally, how to rinse and prepare your final skein. At the end of three hours, you’ll be taking home one full speckle dyed skein plus a solid dyed matching mini, enough yarn to knit a pair of socks or a small shawl. Morning workshop 9am to 12pm Afternoon workshop 1pm to 4pm $225 (includes materials) |
