I have Strand and love it for its beautiful projects, clear illustrations and stunning photography. A knitting book for all levels of knitting, it has beginner knitting illustrations for those of you who are a complete novice, and features patterns and ideas about how to combine different yarns, knitting them together in a joined strand, to create bulkier and more dynamic yarns. Go see Megan and so many other awesome local vendors at Got Craft next weekend: Saturday, December 8 + Sunday, December 9, 2018 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Maritime Labour Centre 1880 Triumph Street, Vancouver (BC) Got Craft's 'around town' page lets you know about other craft fairs around Vancouver. 11/30/2018 0 Comments Warmth & Light Mystery KALA guest post from Jenny Faifel of Sweater Freak Knits
Every holiday season, I like to run a little mystery KAL, sometimes it's a hat or a cowlette. This year I came up with something truly special - a cowl that is styled like a shawl but it doesn't have seams (like many other cowls that fit like a shawl do!). It took a bit of tinkering and thinking, but it all worked out at the end just like I envisioned and I am pleased as peach!!!! The first clue drops Dec 6th and the pattern is now on sale for 50% off at 3USD (no code needed!) till then. Get the pattern here and don't forget to visit the MKAL Chat thread to show us the yarn you plan to use! You can find all the details such as yarn info and dates on the pattern page. Also, when you purchase the pattern, you get a 20% off coupon for the yarn pictured above - the very same yarn I used for my sample - naturally dyed Alpaca/Merino mix from Everlea Yarn. The code is valid till Dec 15th. Hope to see you there! Jenny 11/30/2018 0 Comments November Newsletter
Hi Friends! This fall really kicked my butt so it has taken me longer to get my stuff together to send you updates than I had planned. I spent September preparing Everlea Yarn for Knit City as well as installing two tapestries for the Textile Symposium of America while also transitioning my five-year-old into full-time kindergarten. I tried to see as much art as possible during the symposium in Vancouver while dyeing hundreds of skeins of yarn and building my booth for Knit City from my studio in Pender Harbour, but failed miserably. What beautiful things did you see during the Textile Symposium of America? Women's Work at The Italian Cultural Center is still on until December 30th. I highly recommend you see it!
Knit City was an absolute blast and total blur. Everlea Yarn is so new, so I was over-the-moon when several people had me on their must-visit lists including Uncle Stashly (yes, these lists are a must at Knit City lest you just walk around aimlessly and anxiously in the chalked-full-of-yarn PNE Forum). I left Knit City feeling energized and excited about the future of Everlea Yarn as well as totally physically drained. In the weekends following Knit City I taught a two-day tapestry weaving class and then co-hosted for the three-day Sunshine Coast Art crawl. To say I was burned out is an understatement. But, I am truly and loving everything that is rolling out in my life right now. The burnout was purely physical and now I'm totally recovered and excited about some upcoming collaborations. I spent a lot of time at Fibreworks this past year. It is a community space in Pender Harbour situated in a network of yurts open on the warmer months. They just wrapped up their transition year between founder Yvonne Stowell (@markofthehand) and new owner Alexis Bach. Since June I've been working on making one of Yvonne's stunning one-of-a-kind hand knit shawls into a pattern. I've knit my sample and am putting the finishing touches on the pattern while my group of test knitters knit it up and the tech editor does her magic. Below is my sample knit up in a strand of Everlea's 100% Alpaca and a strand of Maiwa's cobweb weight organic linen held double. The finished fabric is airy and soft with stunning drape. I can't wait to release the pattern (hopefully before the new year). Look for it on Ravelry as The Mark of the Hand Shawl. Join Everlea's mailing list to be notified when it releases. AROUND TOWN
