Looking for Knitting Teacher Volunteers

Dear Vancouver Knitting Instructors,
I'm Stellar, an External Relations coordinator from Enactus at Simon Fraser University. I am reaching out for an opportunity to collaborate with you to host in-person workshops and knitting sessions for the elderly community.

We are launching "Kindred Knots", a project that combats social isolation among seniors and improves living conditions for the homeless. With Kindred Knots, we foster positive social impact by hosting knitting sessions for the elders and donating knitted items to the unhoused population. As a part of the project, we are looking for knitting volunteers (an ability to speak Cantonese or Mandarin is a nice-to-have skill!) to help us host knitting workshops.

We’d like to invite you to be a part of Kindred Knots by volunteering in our in-person knitting sessions for elders at eldercare homes.

Below are some high-level details of Kindred Knots:
1. Purpose:

• Create a space for seniors to participate in personalized and interactive knitting sessions.
• Knitting items will be donated to homeless shelters in the Greater Vancouver Area.

2. Program duration:

• Biweekly knitting workshops running until May 2024.

3. What will volunteers gain?

• Make a direct, positive impact on the local community.
• Build valuable relationships with fellow SFU students, project mentors, student leaders and the local community.
• Gain the opportunity to build leadership qualities by leading sessions alongside the Kindred Knots team.
• Experience, learn and apply a diversity of skills, such as knitting skills, soft skills, teamwork and communication skills.

By volunteering for Kindred Knots, you will be able to gain not only volunteering experience, but you will also give back to the community and be an important part of a community of student leaders.
