Return to Sender

After moving across Canada six years ago to complete my degree at Concordia University's Fibres and Material Practices program and then getting suprised by an amazing opportunity to live in New York City for a few years I'm finally on my way back home to Vancouver this summer. I'm going to miss things like singing Return to Sender with Fedex workers in the elevator, spending time with the awesome ladies in the East Harlem knitting group, going to cheap night at the Whitney, doing skillshares in cafe's and on the subway, and cruising Chelsea galleries and then getting the best deals ever at the Chelsea Goodwill, But alas it is time for me to return to my motherland and be closer the awesome textile community in Vancouver again. I totally welcome the change.

My mom recently visited and we filled our week with art, textiles and pastries and of course a trip to Purl Soho. It's always a treat to have mom visit.

I have a few textile workshops lined up right when I return. There's Intro to Tapestry Weaving, a two-day intensive at Vancouver Island School of Art (VISA) which occurs just a couple of days after the end of a five-day natural dyeing workshop at the Metchosin International Summer School of Art (MISSA), which is not far from VISA, so if you're so inclined you can sign up for both for a very interesting week. In August I'm returning to VISA for a three-day Printing with Natural Dyes Workshop, which after teaching a bunch of times now I've refined to include a final-day challenge of creating a cohesive collection of scarves and yardages. The first two days will focus on prepping fabric and doing a whole lot of experimenting and sampling for our individual sample books.
